not too messy

my friends & i were joking around about how hard it is to keep a house clean with a little one in the midst. i have my own personal struggles with this, but bigger than the clean up for me is the "who i should be" as a mom. in my imagination, i should be a "supermom". definition being, "always happy, always engaged with my child, always perfect."

no, nope, and not so much.

i'm human. it's okay that i don't want to play as much as my daughter does...but there's this lie floating around, that motherhood has to be a "continuous string of mommy and me moments." bliss...

this article about discontentment & expectations was a helpful reality check. i like what julian freeman talks about in terms of seeing identity like this: Even more than being a mother, [a mom's] foundational identity is ‘Christian,’ beloved of God in the gospel.

& if that's the case, which it is-- weakness is okay. i can serve with joy; i can play & be silly; load the dishwasher, make dinner, and do my work -- knowing i am beloved, accepted, beautiful. not too messy for Jesus! faults and all.
