urban dwellers

it's 2013 now.

that means i've lived in philadelphia for ten years now. (bill argues that 'elkins park' is not 'philadelphia', but hey, it's a suburb of philadelphia and i count it)

it also means i've learned a few things about city life. after hanging out with some friends last night, friends who read the Bible and pray together at some coffee shop up the street, i realized something.

i love laughing and joking around about how "loud" my block is.
it's loud and proud at the right time of day. and now that it's getting warmer it can only mean one thing--

blast your favorite song for the entire neighborhood to hear.

(i totally do this too, just not in my car, because there are little people in the backseat now. i did it the other day, listening to shai linne way loud with lots of bass, but my ears couldn't take it. lol).

but, i complain about noise sometimes, and God convicted me of that -- "be thankful for what you have -- it's loud but it's what I've given you!").

my friend bo said something awhile back that really stuck with me. he said, "you can have a quiet soul."

i'm sorry what? quiet soul? in this place?
yep.

if i ask for it, God will give it. it's just the plain truth. He has given peace, He has given rest, and i'm thankful.

[thanks bo for that word of encouragement/sharpening last year!]

where am i going with this post? well... i guess i just realized recently after thinking on psalm 16 for awhile that my boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places. ridiculously pleasant.

The Lord is my chosen portion and my cup;
    you hold my lot.
The lines have fallen for me in pleasant places;
    indeed, I have a beautiful inheritance.
