a little poem about today.

for shana & elise

in yellow, mother
leads little follower
gray stone, extending branches
birds surrounding, overcast
tiny steps, trip and fall.
the warmth of arms, surrounding
the glow of a smile, warm.
gray sky in the city, extending branches
tall trees, clasped hands.

today my friend shana visited with her daughter, elise. we had a great playdate which included a walk to the park, lunch, and even a time of prayer together- what a treat to have friends who are in the same "season" of life. watching elise and shana walk together from a distance at the park, i longed for my camera. i knew that i had to "capture" the moment (or attempt to capture it) with something, so i wrote a poem for them. one of the most touching things (for me) is to see a mother or father walking with a small child, hand in hand. it seems these days i am realizing what a gift it is to be a mother. thank you, Lord for my daughter. what a treasure she is!
