This week, the Reverend Al Sharpton and Newt Gingrich visited Mastery Charter School, Shoemaker Campus, to talk about reforming education. This was so exciting to hear, because this is the school where Bill had his first long-term sub. position. (Now he's at the Pickett campus in Germantown). Personally I think they should have visited Pickett, to see Mr. Melone's murals, but that's just my opinion. :)

Background info: Shoemaker & Pickett, along with 3 other schools in different parts of Philly, were once part of the Philadelphia School District. A few years ago, each school was "adopted" by Mastery Charter School. New teachers were hired, but the same students remained. Since Mastery, the students have higher test scores- and the violence in these schools has vanished.
So neat to hear that people in office really do care about education reform, especially in the city, where we really, really need it.
