last night, the melones trekked to kensington (a neighborhood next to ours) to visit bill's coworker and his wife in their pretty house. we ate delicious mexican cuisine, chatted with bill's fellow teachers and their families, and ended the night with a rousing game of ROCKBAND on the nintendo wii. it was a blast - watching our girls and bill's friends' children crawl all over the place and getting licked by james' dogs. grace was particularly excited about the dogs' food: the placemat with dog food and water bowls was right on her level! (of course, we didn't let her ingest any puppy chow.)
the other mom who was there, jen, was really fun to talk to. she has two daughters (3 and 11 mos.). we discussed the "morning nap" is: how funny it is that a baby who sleeps for 10-12 hours at night can only "make it" another 2-3 hours the following morning before needing a nap again. grace's morning nap is now from around 9:30-10:30, which rules out playgroup for awhile. i was kind of bummed about it, but these days i've grown grateful. i know that in a few short months, the morning nap will be history. she'll have way more energy and spunk; she'll be walking and then really starting to tear apart everything in her path! not to mention getting hurt in the process! i want to enjoy each part of her childhood - even if it upsets my "routine" in the morning. much worse things have happened in life than me not being able to get out of the house exactly when i want to. playgroup's not going anywhere: we'll join back in when we can, and until then, happy napping, grace!
"feeling a little old" : watching people play nintendo wii made 26 years old seem like 86 years old! the last time i played nintendo, there were only 2 dimensions: not 3. the only remote device attached to it was a joystick, or the orange and gray gun used for "duck hunt". the ridiculously realistic graphics sucked us in. we loved watching them sing, play drums & guitar. they rocked out to "say it ain't so" by weezer, and they did so well -- they didn't even get "booed" off of the stage. when grace is old enough, i might dig out my super nintendo from the basement, so i can "school" her on the ins & outs of super mario world. :)
